Southland Farms Featured in The Fine Dining Journal
We’re excited to share that Southland Farms was recently featured in The Fine Dining Journal in an article all about California-grown avocados, our farm here in Fallbrook, and why where your avocados come from matters.
The article takes a closer look at the story behind Southland Farms, including how Joe turned a lifelong dream of farming into reality when he purchased the organic Fallbrook avocado grove in 2022. Today, the farm grows five different avocado varieties throughout the year: Bacon, Zutano, Hass, GEM, and Reed.
One of the biggest differences between ordering directly from our farm and picking up an avocado at the grocery store is freshness. When you order from Fallbrook Avocado, our avocados are picked and packed the same day they ship, giving you fruit that begins its journey to your kitchen straight from the tree.
The feature also dives into why supporting California avocado growers matters. Rising water and labor costs, along with competition from imported fruit, have made it increasingly difficult for small California farms to remain viable. Ordering directly from farms like Southland Farms helps support local agriculture and allows growers to continue caring for the land and producing California-grown fruit.
And if you think an avocado is just an avocado, the article might change your mind. From the familiar Hass to the large, buttery Reed avocado harvested in late summer, each variety has its own season, flavor, and personality.
We’re incredibly grateful to The Fine Dining Journal for sharing our story and helping shine a light on California-grown avocados.
